Surgemint
About Surgemint

We started this because the reporting was insulting

Surgemint was founded in 2019 by in-house operators who were tired of paying agencies to report on impressions. Everything about how we work is a reaction to that.

Our story

Built by the people who used to hire agencies

Imani Castellanos spent nine years in-house, first running acquisition for a DTC brand and then for a B2B SaaS company. In both roles the pattern was identical: an agency that pitched brilliantly, staffed the account with someone three years out of university, and produced monthly decks full of metrics that never appeared in a board pack. Surgemint started in 2019 with three people and one rule — if we cannot connect the work to revenue, we do not bill for it. That rule has cost us business. It has also produced a 94% retention rate and an average client tenure of nearly three years, which is unusual in this industry and the number we are actually proud of.

How we operate

Six principles we actually enforce

Not wall art. These get invoked in real decisions, usually uncomfortable ones.

  • Say the inconvenient thing

If your product is the problem, or the market is not there, you will hear it from us before you spend another quarter finding out.

  • Measure first, always

We will spend the first month on tracking infrastructure even when you want campaigns live tomorrow. It is not negotiable.

  • Senior people, small accounts

We cap the number of clients per pod. It limits how fast we can grow, which is a trade we made deliberately.

  • Publish the failures

Our case studies include what did not work. Our monthly reviews lead with the tests that lost.

  • Build it to hand over

Every system we build is documented well enough that you could take it in-house tomorrow. Some clients do. That is fine.

  • No lock-in, ever

You own the accounts, code, data and creative. Our contracts have a 30-day exit after the initial term because retention should be earned.

The team

The people who will actually be on your account

Distributed across five time zones, which is how we cover almost any working day.

Imani Castellanos

Founder & Managing Director

Austin, TX

Imani spent nine years in-house running acquisition for a DTC brand and a B2B SaaS before starting Surgemint in 2019, largely out of frustration with agencies that could not connect their work to revenue. They still personally review every account plan before it goes to a client.

Tobias Lindqvist

Head of Performance

Stockholm, Sweden

Tobias has managed north of $40M in paid media across ecommerce, SaaS and lead generation. He is the person who will tell you, politely, that your attribution model is lying to you, and then show you the geo test that proves it.

Renu Shastri

Head of SEO

Bengaluru, India

Renu came up through publisher SEO, where a botched migration costs millions of sessions overnight. That background shows: she is meticulous about crawl budget, redirect integrity and never shipping a change that cannot be rolled back.

Daniel Mercer

Engineering Lead

Manchester, United Kingdom

Daniel builds the sites and applications, and enforces the performance budget nobody else wants to enforce. Previously a senior engineer at two product companies, he is unreasonably opinionated about accessibility and correct about it.

Yara Benali

Content Director

Casablanca, Morocco

Yara ran an editorial desk before moving into marketing, which is why our briefs read like assignments rather than keyword lists. She matches writers to categories and edits hard enough that clients stop needing to.

Grace Abbott

Creative Director

Melbourne, Australia

Grace leads creative across paid, social and web. She treats ad creative as a research programme rather than an art project, which is the reason our test velocity is what it is.

Victor Nakamura

Ecommerce Lead

Toronto, Canada

Victor has shipped more than sixty Shopify storefronts and migrated a fair number of Magento estates nobody else would touch. He plans cutovers the way pilots plan landings: with a checklist and a go-around option.

Aisha Oyelaran

Client Partner

Austin, TX

Aisha is the person clients actually talk to most. She keeps engagements honest, runs the monthly reviews and has an unusually good instinct for when a plan needs changing before the data says so.

We take on roughly one new client a month

That constraint is deliberate. If the fit is right we will tell you quickly, and if it is not we will point you somewhere better.
